Story
Sol de Mayo Malbec, The Sun of May is very much a bright, young and. fruity wine that welcomes in the warmer weather with a light, refreshing and enjoyable experience. This Malbec is medium bodied and gives off the aroma of fresh, ripe black fruits and the palate is that of black currants and juicy blackberries. Typically to the varietal it has good intensity and fills the mouth with a depth of flavour of the black fruits, cherries and has a long finish with chocolate and smoky notes coming through afterwards and stays lingering in the mouth.
Being in the southern hemisphere, the grapes for Sol de Mayo Malbec are harvested mid-March, sorted in the vineyard and sent to the winery to start the vinification process. Once at the winery the grapes are put into large metal vats and are gently crushed and traditionally fermented for 7 days. During this week the grapes are subjected to daily pumpovers.
This wine is great for any occasion and one that is always excellent to have to hand at home incase an occasion arrises. Perfectly enjoyed on its own it is easily drunk without food or with small canapés. However, this wine also goes well with a range of foods including red meats, or pasta. Being as versatile as it is it goes with a range of meals from the meats being simply grilled or stewed in a goulash to pasta dishes with a light tomato sauce or a rich creamy mushroom one.
