Story
Niels set out to make a white blend that was both serious and refreshing. And it turns out that this Saboteur Red Blend, with its new closure and new packaging, was an excellent tribute to the Saboteurs…it initially sold out within 3 days. The Luddite Saboteur Red Blend is a dark, garnet and full colour to the edge. Black and red fruit, fynbos, garrigue scrubland, allspice and a hint of toasty wood. Overall quite perfumed Dark juicy fruit on entry. Broad, spicy cherries and red fruit which gives a feeling of freshness on the mid-palate. The finish is dry and firm with balanced tannins. Luddite Saboteur 2015 is a blend of 77% Shiraz, 11% Mourvèdre, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc, maturation lasting 12 months in French oak, 50% new. The Cab Sauvignon and Mourvedre were fermented in small batches in open bins with regular hand punch downs. The Shiraz was fermented in Stainless steel with regular pump-overs. The 2015 vintage is much celebrated among winemakers on account of how favourable growing conditions were but the proof of the pudding is in the eating and while the white wines produced have generally proved to be very good, the more serious reds are only now starting to come to market, their defining feature seemingly being lots and lots of fruit power.
