Story
The Prospector Syrah is named in nod to the 1800’s Gold Rush when the discovery of Tin was found under the gravel of the Syrah Vines.
The Prospector Syrah from Jordan Wine Estate in Stellenbosch has an aroma and palate packed full of red fruit with hints of peppered charcuterie and chipotle coming through giving the whole wine a medium body and a delicious drink, both with and without food…
This wine goes perfectly with a range of meat dishes and techniques; great with smoked and spiced charcuterie as well as grilled red meats, yet the bright red fruits and medium body lend itself well to duck and game dishes too.
The award clad Syrah from Jordan is made by winemaker Sjaak Nelson and his team under the watchful eye of Gary and Kathy Jordan and their wealth of knowledge. The grapes are picked in late February/early March by hand and are then taken to the winery for the vinification. They go through a temperature-controlled fermentation after a gentle pressing to maintain its intensity and spicy notes. It was then stored and matured in oak barrels for a total of 16 months before bottling.
Jordan Wine Estate sits in the distinct ravine which embodies Stellenbosch Kloof and harnesses all the qualities of a well-orientated compass. Varying elevations and aspects allow a selection of classic varieties to be grown in their specific requirements, with a range of aspects of the slopes to the altitude – all-controlling sunlight and warmth that the vines get. This makes for a spectacular range of wines; bringing out the best of each individual wine that makes up The Jordan Estate range.
