Story
Jean-Bernard is the third generation of the Larrieu family to run this 17-hectare estate. Jean- Bernard’s grandfather, Jean, bought the estate in 1920 (and his son (Jean-Bernard’s father, Marcel)), took over from him, Marcel still helps Jean-Bernard run the estate there. Jean and Marcel ran the family estate using polyculture (vines, cattle and fruit, with their hillside-grown strawberries being, at one time, one of the principal sources of revenue for the family, vines were planted but the grapes used to be sold directly to the local Cooperative, indeed the first vinification took place in the year 1985), which was the year in which Jean-Bernard decided to found the wine-making estate of ’Clos Lapeyre’, after completing his studies in viticulture and wine- making.
Clos Lapeyre is located in the Jurancon region in southwest France between Pau and Biarritz, and was founded in 1920 by Jean Larrieu. The 12 hectares of vineyards are cultivated according to strictly organic principles and look south towards the Pic-du-Midi, one aspect that provides minimal protection against strong winds and plenty of sunshine during the summer months.
The Viticulture is organic and biodynamic. 18 hectares on very steep slopes, facing south. Working the soils in spring between the vines helps airflow and deep rooting.
Clos Lapeyre Evidencia is a mixture of equal parts of Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng and Courbu. Not used additional sulfur and wine is not filtered. After malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged in barrels and then carefully tanks before being bottled in January 2016. The nose has notes of peaches, pears and green apples. The palate is dry, with other fruit flavors of orchard leading to a honeyed finish. Forward acidity makes it an excellent food wine. And one step explosive and mouth delicious.
