Story
The Hedonist Sangiovese should be drunk by those identifying as the label suggests… pleasure seekers. This is a hugely pleasurable bottle of wine. On appearance, this Adelaide Sangiovese is deep ruby red with purple hues and a clarity of perfect measure. the bouquet is that of bright fresh red fruits and stone fruits. there is the aroma of concentrated red cherry as well and a top note of ripe, juicy plums. There is also the underlying notes of baking spices – there is a hint of cinnamon spice at the end. The palate of this Hedonist Sangiovese is mirrored by its nose. Fresh, juicy, bright red fruits and plum skins. The stoned fruit element works together with the firm tannins to keep them soft, rounded and well balanced. The whole feels creates a rich texture and creates a opulent and enjoyable mouth feel. The fruit for the Hedonist Sangiovese is sourced from the estates own vineyards in the Willunga foothills of McLaren Vale, just outside Adelaide. The idyllic St Vincent’s Gulf lies 5km to the West. The soil of the vineyard is rich loam over clay with patches of underlying limestone, giving the wine a rich and fullness of pallet. Once the grapes get to the winery, they are put through a gentle crushing and are destemmed. For the first 7 days of skin contact, the juice has 2 pumpovers a day to draw the flavours out of the skins. In total the skins are left in the juice for maceration for a huge period of 33 days, this allowed the gentle softening and integration of the desired tannins. This process makes for a rich, full bodied wine which is perfect accompanying pasta with a sausage and tomato sauce.
