Story
Szekszardi Tus Harmandos Kadarka 2018 is a light red wine, with a nice fruitiness of red cherry and red currant. There is an under-tone of earthy, terroir scents on the nose which are perfectly characteristic of the Szekszárd region and is therefore easily recognisable to the Hungarian wine aficionado. Kadarka Harmados has lively acidity and is very well balanced with a medium body, soft smooth tannins and a tight structure. The over-riding flavour is the fresh fruits which makes this wine very drinkable. The wine is drunk well when slightly chilled. It is well matched with foods like fish, vegetable dishes and BBQ’d meats.
Tuske grow the Kadarka grape in their vineyards which is located in Szekszárd and is the oldest historic vine variety cultivated in the wine region, where it benefits from the climate, making it Kadarka’s natural home. It is a difficult to grow due to the delicate grape and its thin skins. The grapes for this wine are hand picked and then go through a manual hand selection process of sorting. It was then made in 2 halves where some of the juice spent time in barrel and the remainder was fermented in stainless steel tanks.
The wine is named ‘Harmados’ and in Hungarian means 1/3rd and the wine has been named this for two reasons: Firstly in older times the workers would receive 1/3rd of the crop as a return to their work – a historic form of payment for the workers of the field and secondly “harmados” refers to the reduction made on the grape vines in order to prepare a characteristic wine.
