Story
The Louis Guntrum family winery has a history dating back to 1648, Konstantin Guntrum took over from his father in 2003, becoming the custodian of the family estate, which lies in the heart of Nierstein on the Rhine. Louis Dry Riesling shows terrific varietal expression and purity of fruit that is the hallmark of a classic Riesling. Fermented in stainless steel and lightly filtered before bottling. Typical representative of Nierstein, “Roter Hang“, the red soil of the premium vineyards in Nierstein: Sophisticated, aromatic, with a long and complex finish. Today’s Estate building home is one of Rheinhessen’s largest vaulted brick cellars. 11 hectares of mainly Grand Cru vineyards in one of the most traditional wine-growing regions of Germany. The choice of vineyards has been developed carefully by succeeding generations, adapting attentively to climatic changes and market trends, while taking into consideration the different characters of wines, that originate from the different types of soil. Louis Guntrum uses sustainable farming and grape growing techniques in the vineyard. Exclusive use of organic fertilizers, no irrigation, defoliate by hand for reduced use of pesticides and healthier grapes, cover plants as a natural fertilizer to increase the biological activity of the soil and reduce soil compression, hand-selected harvest with a maximum grape temperature a the time of harvest of 15°C. Gentle pressing below 1,8 atmospheres, natural sedimentation, temperature-controlled fermentation at 16°- 18°C in stainless steel. Open at least 6 hours prior to drinking. This wine needs AIR! To be paired with the finest seafood, scallops, oysters, lobster, sole and other fine white fish, veal and poultry, pasta.
