Sancerre d’Antan Silex 2016 is handpicked, gently pressed and fermented in very old oak which adds texture not flavour. Its matured on fine lees, again adding weight to the palate. It’s naturally stabilised with no fining or filtration. Delicate aromatics of lemon, apple and touches of pineapple. Its palate is fresh and crisp but weighted. Layered and complex throughout with a long scented finish. Sancerre d’Antan Silex 2016, essentially the mecca for Sauvignon Blanc. The region Sancerre is in the Loire Valley and located on the eastern reaches. Sauvignon Blanc grapes meet three different soil types here. The first, Terre Blanche, a mix of clay, Kimmeridgian limestone. Caillotes is the second type comprising small pebbles of limestone. Finally, Silex which is flint. Silex is one of the most interesting soils for Sauvignon Blanc to grow on. It’s quite rare and therefore the wines are hard to find.
