Story
Join Elliot alongside Special Guests: Johannes Hasselbach (Gunderloch), Lorenz Haas (Allram), Alexander Stodden (Stodden). From the first time in the isolation series, all wine will have their maker showcasing their exquisite wines. Starting at 19:30 Friday 17th April – make sure you’re following @Elliotawin to watch this live!
The 17th April case is all about family! Elliot talks with next-generation winemakers from some renowned family-owned estates across Germany and Austria. He will chat Riesling with Johannes Hasselbach of Gunderloch (Rheinhessen, Germany), talk Pinot Noir with Alexander Stodden (Jean Stodden, Nahe, Germany) and discuss all things Zweigelt with Lorenz Haas (Allram, Austria).
2017 Gunderloch Als wär ein Stück von Mir Riesling
This is a deeply personal wine, as this was one of the first wines created by Johannes Hasselbach when he took over the reins of the Gunderloch winery from his parents (Agnes & Fritz Hasselbach). An aromatic young wine combining light footedness with precision, with an inherent mineral character, spice and persistence. Vegan Friendly
2018 Jean Stodden Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir)
Alexander Stodden wears the immense tradition with which he has been entrusted with quiet determination and fortitude. His late father, Gerd, was one of the very first Spätburgunder producers in Germany to give his wines some serious French oak treatment, a winemaking philosophy that Alexander continues today. This wine offers aromas of red berries and cherries, some youthful spicy fruit on the palate and subtle tannins leading to a long finish. Would be terrific paired with roasted duck in plum sauce or a simple wild mushroom risotto. Vegan Friendly.
2017 Allram Villa Strass Zweigelt
The Allram Estate lies in the heart of Austria’s famous Kamptal growing region. It truly is a family affair with father Erich and son, Lorenz sharing duties in the vineyards and in the cellar. Although Zweigelt remains little known to many in the UK, it is Austria’s most widely planted red grape variety. Dark carmine red. The nose is delicate and very elegant, typical sour cherries with a floral touch. On the palate spicy-fruity with soft tannins and good length. Vegan Friendly
