Pull The Cork’s Halloween Themed Wines

Halloween
Last Updated: June 16th, 2021

Once you’ve closed the door for the final time to trick or treaters, because it’s their bedtime, and anyone else that is still out knocking on the door is either a lawbreaker or too old to be trick or treating, what do you do? It’s 8 pm, all the sweets (and kale) are gone, but surely the grown-ups still want a Halloween party with Halloween themed wine.

So here are our top tipples to celebrate with family and friends, that goodness of coming together, to ward off those ghouls flitting about, our top list of Halloween themed wine.

#1 Ghostly white wine

If you’re turning up to a Halloween party you may want a ghostly rather than a ghastly white wine. To avoid picking something up from the store en route, consider vegan white wine. To help you wow everyone, let us get a number of really excellent, heart-warming whites to your door, or better yet, direct to your friends.

Our top three white wines with hints of apple cider, a vanilla candle, and pumpkin spice are:

Free Run Juice Samurai Chardonnay 2017 – £11.00 With a spooky label to suit our Halloween theme the Free Run Juice Samurai Chardonnay is a pale straw colour with classic chardonnay aromas of fresh white peach and ripe melons. Rich fruit flavours and creamy textures perfectly balanced by crisp acidity entices the palate from the first glass to the last. It’s Ideal with shellfish, fish or chicken dishes.

Ottavio Rube Bianco, Valli Unite, 2016 – £12.00 The Ottavio Rube Bianco is a delicious and thirst-quenching mix of summer flowers, yellow plums and wild herbs held together by racy minerals. This wine ideally needs to be decanted!

Walnut Block The Collectables Sauvignon Blanc 2017/18 – £12.80 The Walnut Block The Collectables Sauvignon Blanc is a lively Sauvignon with powerful aromas of fresh melon, citrus, and passionfruit. The palate is weighty and concentrated with exotic fruits, a fresh natural acidity and a long finish.

#2 Blood red Halloween sangria

If you’re hosting and stuck for a Halloween themed drink to serve the masses, a blood red Halloween sangria is a fun way to magic a Halloween themed wine out of nowhere. This recipe from The Spruce Eats is very simple, just taking a bottle of red, orange and lemon wedges, sugar, club soda, and blood-effect colouring supplied by a splash of grenadine, all in a punch bowl over ice. To add the spooky stuff, throw in some eyeball sweets, fake teeth, fruity worms, that sort of thing – or a dolls head.

But what delicious wine to add? You want something spicy, full-blooded, that will work well to suggest Spanish matador bludgeoning bloodied hands around the place in conversation, or other such tropes.

The best reds for this Halloween themed wine

Philip Shaw The Conductor Merlot 2013 – £15.00 Philip Shaw The Conductor Merlot 2013 has lifted aromas of ripe red plums and cherries with underlying earthy savouriness and vanilla. The palate is smooth with gentle fruit tannins and poised acidity. A medium bodied wine with elegant structure and purity of fruit. This Merlot is perfectly suited on its own and goes also well with strong cheeses, game meets or vegetarian stews.

Roncus Venezia Giulia Merlot 2015 – £14.50 This lovely everyday Merlot has aromas of blueberry, wild berries, black olives and a balanced palate of persistent fruit and with a smooth mineral finish.

#3 Wines to accompany a Halloween cocktail party

You might be throwing a Halloween cocktail party but still wondering what Halloween themed wines to go with it. After all, while some like pumpkin spiced rum voodoo punch, a Morgue-arita, a Corpse Reviver, or a Really Bloody Scary Mary, you will still want to offer a number of organic, natural or sustainable wines from your wine holder. So what goes well flavour wise with vodka, bourbon, or gin-based cocktails? Our natural wines mean that you’re less likely to wake up feeling like Frankenstein’s monster on the 1st of November, as we source wines made with no chemicals or additives that create those scary side effects:

Our favourite sparkling Halloween themed wine for a Halloween cocktail party

Create a fabulous sparkling potion with an amazing set of bubble bubble without too much toil and trouble with clean notes and easy finish thanks to our favourite selection of Pet Nat wines.

The Supernatural ‘The Super Nat’ Pét-Nat 2018 – £19.00 The Supernatural ‘The Super Nat’ Pét-Nat is a unique petillant naturel style sparkling wine from Supernatural in New Zealand. Dry, with floral fruity flavours and a biscuity finish. Naturally cloudy. It has been naturally fermented in the bottle, sediment will remain. Chill and carefully decant to enjoy clear, or invert bottle before opening to enjoy cloudy.

Best white Halloween themed wine for a Halloween cocktail party

This bewitched wine is always a hit, a sort of house white acceptable to most pallets, and a smooth segue into anything stronger,

Terra Torrontés Viniterra 2016 – £11.80 Just as you would expect from an Argentinian Torrontes. It is round, simple, refreshing and not too acidic, with melon flavours and a soft, easygoing, monotone finish. Generic but perfectly adequate Torrontés; hassle free and vegan.

Best red Halloween themed wine for a Halloween cocktail party

A vampire cabernet sauvignon is a safe bet bridging flavours from wine to cocktail, we’d recommend:

London Cru Cabot Square Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 – £15.90 On the palate, it’s pure and has an intense blackcurrant and cedar flavour; full-bodied, with great structure; long, complex finish. Lots of fruit makes this good to drink on release, but its structure will allow it to improve over ten years.

#4 Organic Orange wines for Halloween

Skin contact wine is very fashionable at the moment, and we are delighted to carry some real stunners suitable for your Halloween themed wine. These will match your pumpkin themed carvings adorning your floors, toilet, front door, kitchen table, well if you’re in Belgravia or Chelsea that is; and will certainly look like you’ve made an effort as well as being super on trend.

For a Halloween spice that has enough flavour to raise the living dead that might be congregated around your table, this will get them talking:

Magula Oranzovy Vlk Orange Wolf 2016 – £26.00 The Orange Wolf is a balanced cuvée of Welschriesling and Veltliner from an old vineyard in Wolf’s valley and a young Devín from the rose mountain. This wine is certified Organic, biodynamic, spontaneously fermented, unfiltered, unfined and without any addition of sulphites.

Enjoy the characteristic, extravagant taste of the orange wine or rather amber wine!

Ready to celebrate Halloween with the right wine?

Now that you have a list of Halloween themed wine – what will you choose? Will you opt for organic red wine, white or sparkling wine? Perhaps all of them?

Happy Halloween!

Whatever you choose, don’t forget to prepare a corkscrew. You’ll need it. (but in case you do forget, we got you – we know how to get a cork out without a corkscrew).
