Story
Schnaitmann Simonroth Lemberger (Blaufränkisch) has a nose of violet, thyme, juniper wood and iron-containing meat, accompanied by cassis, blackberry, blueberry and sloe. The influence of wood is subtle and perfectly integrated followed by a palette of rich dark forest fruits and earthy forest floor. Perfectly suitable for ageing a couple of years or drunk with a dish of any game dish, especially with a fruity jus. Reiner Schnaitmann has a philosophy to create intense, collectable wines that will show off the earth and the fruit, earning him a spot as one of the most highly regarded German producers along with a whole range of accolades. He is a member of the Masters of Riesling; as well as being awarded newcomer of the year just a decade after starting his own label. Schnaitmann wines also proudly boast the eagle stamp of VDP Pradikatsweingut as an a testament to the quality of his products. With huge amounts of care and attention in his organic vineyard and hands-off production in the winery, Schnaitmann’s wines shine and should be watched out for. The wine is produced with a traditional mash fermentation with whole grapes, spontaneously fermented and aged in old 300-litre barrels and tonneaux. Lemberger is not the most common of grape varieties; is probably more familiarly known as Blaufränkisch, yet perfectly sits amongst the growing interest in German reds that are full of flavour. Based in Wurttemberg to the south of Germany where the weather is warmer and the grapes ripen quickly, giving them their intense fruity flavour and vibrant characteristics.
