Story
Nestled high in the Eastern Hills, Rutherford Hill Winery commands a spectacular view overlooking the Rutherford bench of Napa Valley. It is from a handful of the most select Napa vineyards that Rutherford Hill continues its tradition of crafting legendary wines. In 1976, while the rest of the world was just beginning to take notice of Napa Valley, the founders of Rutherford Hill recognised a unique opportunity. They believed that the climate and soil of the valley, similar to Pomerol, were well suited and were among the first to pioneer what has become Napa’s premier varietal. Today, this tradition of quality continues, expressed by wines of great complexity and character.
The Rutherford Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 vintage is remembered for early harvest of low yields, high quality wines. The growing season started with unseasonably warm temperatures yielding early bud break and bloom. Uneven fruit set was a result of colder temperatures at peak of bloom. Stainless steel tank fermentation with daily pump-overs, pressed at dryness.
This ripe, sleek, elegant wine is carefully crafted then properly cave aged for 15 months in French oak within one of the most extensive natural cave systems in North America, providing the ideal temperature and humidity throughout the ageing process. Complex aromatic profile, with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberries and blueberries layered with notes of cassis with hints of cocoa, anise and spice. The palate offers intense flavours of dark cherry and pomegranate with a thread of savoury herb and spices. Full bodied with a lush texture and a dusty cocoa finish.
We suggest you open this a while before serving to breathe. Serve with mature and hard cheeses, game dishes, roast lamb or beef and grilled poultry dishes.
