Story
Of course, not everyone needs Rieslings to be cheerful, but if you did this would be a pretty damn good reason!! Our Rieslings to be Cheerful mixed case is a wonderful collection of the very best inexpensive Rieslings we have on Pull The Cork. Your mixed case will feature:
1 x Dr Loosen Red Slate Dry Riesling 2017
The Dr Loosen’s Red Slate Riesling 2017 is the dry counterpart to the classically fruity Blue Slate Kabinett. It is produced with fruit from estate-owned vineyards in the red slate soils in the villages of Erden and Ürzig. Farmed specifically for producing a dry wine, it is fermented with native yeasts in 3000-litre old oak casks. The old oak helps to soften the acidity. They then allow a tiny amount of oxygenation that adds texture and greater complexity to the wine. Red Slate Riesling Dry has an intense minerality that is warm and enveloping, with a floral, spicy, citrus blossom aroma and a harmonious palate. The dry style is ideal for classic continental cuisine.
A lot of aroma upfront, apples, blossoms with a touch of lemon and lime. Palate is dry with an elegant ripeness and a lick of honeyed spice. Nice texture throughout and a really lovely floral length. The finish is persistent and scented, very quaffable!
2 x Dr Loosen Mosel Riesling 2018
Dr Loosen Mosel Riesling 2018 shows a floral aroma upfront with layers of subtle spice and orange blossom. The palate is crisp and dry with a mouthwatering mid-palate. Length is concentrated and rich with a dry but scented lemon finish. Riesling can benefit from a little age and this is another great example of that. The extra years in bottle soften and round out the acidity while emphasizing the pure fruit. laying a 6 pack of this down for another few years would certainly yield some nice surprises.
If Riesling has never appealed then Dr Loosen’s range is a perfect starting point for education. One can literally taste through a map of the Mosel River side by side. Then really focus and appreciate the differences these sites have to offer. More importantly, the value for money they offer is incredible.
1 x Dr Loosen Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Kabinett 2016
Dr Loosen Urziger Würzgarten Riesling Kabinett 2016 is completely unique in nature. The wine shows the typically juicy and exotic fruit of the “spice garden” vineyard, with a rich mouthfeel, a spicy acid tingle and lingering finish. Highly aromatic showing rich honey, lemon and apple. The palate is delicate and fragrant with a nice crispness.
The Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Kabinett VDP Grose Lage basically means the best German wine, from the best vineyard. The Kabinett style is the lightest, most delicate style of Riesling in Germany, produced from the earliest harvested grapes. The vineyard is blazing red and insanely steep, and sits by the dramatic bend in the river. Although it’s directly adjacent to the vineyards of Erden, it produces a completely different wine style, with exotic, spicy aromas and a unique earthiness. No other vineyard on the Mosel produces wines so bursting with tropical fruit flavours.
2 x WALT Riesling 2018
This medium-bodied 2018 Walt Riesling has lovely expressive ripe peach flavours, balanced by a pristine acidity, followed through with some stone fruit, and a hint of apricot & red apples. The length is seriously tasty and instantly prolonged with subtle mineral notes.
