Story
Pioneers of unconventional tradition! Philip Shaw has been making wine for 56 years. Twice International Winemaker of the Year and Australian Winemaker of the Year. The wines are estate grown and made at Koomooloo Vineyard. Sitting in one of the coolest and highest growing regions in Australia, Orange. The vineyard is unique for Australia with over 10 passes by hand. All the grapes are hand sorted into the winery. Delivering wines of elegance, structure, power and the stamp of the dirt! Our land is farmed sustainably, creating an environment today better than yesterday. We guide our grapes thru to wine with as little intervention as possible! They know the journey.
The Architect Chardonnay inspires an original; it helps define proportion, structure, character and style in a way that relates to people and place. We craft this wine as a response to the season. Each vintage is unique, an expression of its time and place.
The Chardonnay was sourced from koomooloo and another neighbouring vineyard. The grapes were pressed into vats where they were allowed to settle at ambient temperature overnight before being racked off gross lees. Once the juice started to ferment (with natural yeast) a portion was transferred to barrel for ferment. Following fermentation wines were stirred regularly to create complexity and mouthfeel. The Architect went through spring malolactic fermentation before being carefully blended for bottle
The Architect Chardonnay is pale straw yellow with a slight green tinge. The nose is complex and alluring with honeyed fruit, vibrant citrus and a touch of toast. It has a fresh palate with layers of stone fruit, savoury characteristics and creamy nuances. Bright citrusy acidity gives the wine clarity and drive
