Story
Gut Oggau Weinland Atanasius 2018 is organic red wine and a 50/50 Zweigelt and Blaufrankisch blend, vinified in barrel with three weeks of skin contact.
Gut Oggau is a small-production winery located in the heart of Burgenland that creates their ‘family’ of wines. Their wines are biodynamic wines, produced, with respect for the environment put first. Each Gut Oggau wine is given the name of one family member. The children, Atanasius, Theodora, and Winifred are more forthright, light, bold and energetic. The parents, Joschuari, Emmeram, Timotheus, and Josephine are wines with more body and power, and the grandparents, Mechtild and Bertholdi, are from two single vineyards of older vines that produce the most traditional wines from their lineup.
“Wiltrude’s and Joshua’s son. Like his sister Theodora, he has a very affectionate and easy-going nature that is typical of the inhabitants of the Burgenland. He is also an attractive young man but in no way superficial. Despite already being exceptionally popular, he still retains some hidden qualities, which make him even more interesting. His dream is to one day become an acclaimed world star.”
The Gut Oggau estate is run by Eduard Tscheppe and his wife Stephanie Eselböck-Tscheppe. Stephanie and Eduard focus on quality as a permanent quest, their aim is to achieve a natural vine balance and process the grapes as gently as possible, allowing them to make the best use of their vineyard’s strength. All their wines are vineyard-specific and express both the vine age and the character of these indigenous Austrian varieties. There is little mention of grape varieties here, but they do work with 6 main grape varieties– Blaufrankish, Zweigelt Grüner Veltliner, Welchriesling, Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc), and Gewurztraminer.
