Story
This Gravner Ribolla Gialla o 2010 is stunning. Crushed sage and oregano frame the luscious peaches and crisp apples of this Ribolla Gialla, and these notes are underlain with accents of savoury flint, toasted hazelnuts, sun-warmed earth, and honeyed citrus. Gravner Ribolla Gialla is a stunning orange wine.
Josko Gravner has been Friuli’s most esteemed and influential winemaker for over 30 years. He is visionary and maverick and he talks straight. In short, Gravner is an advocate of the use of open-top wood vats and extended maceration on the grape skins, while he eschews added yeasts, sulphur dioxide, and temperature control— he supports purely natural winemaking and He employs both amphorae and large oak barrels to make his three wines: Collio “Breg,” Ribolla Gialla, and “Rosso Gravner.” On the terraces where the vineyards grow, they’ve planted a variety of trees to promote biodiversity. The grapes for these wines come from his 18 hectares of vineyards in Gorizia (Oslavia) that straddle the Italian-Slovenian border.
It is here that he exercises his current approach to wine, producing some of the best low intervention wines in the world. If you are searching for vegan wine (and without sulphites) look no further than Gravners wines.
Gravner avers, “I am convinced that wine is a product of Nature, not of Man, whose role, therefore, is to accompany its maturation process while avoiding any artificial intervention.”
Every bottle of his wines are a testament to the pure beauty of that philosophy. The famed amber wines of Gravner are some of the most sought-after in the world. Super limited stocks are available – natural wine at its finest.
