Story
The Dr Loosen Riesling Eiswein Quarters are the perfect little gift for those impossible to buy presents for, on the palate, it expresses glorious pineapple, peach and dried fruits, it’s also lovely and syrupy. Pairs well with Goose liver pate is also great with truffles (if that’s your thing), in terms of Cheeses, it’s paired well with sharp, rich cheeses (Gorgonzola, Roquefort).
The Dr Loosen estate has been in the same family for over 200 years. Located in far western Germany, the Mosel valley’s steep, south-facing slopes create the perfect climate for Riesling, giving the vines ideal exposure to the sun. The cool climate allows the grapes to ripen slowly while retaining bright acidity. If Riesling has never appealed then Dr Loosen’s range is a perfect starting point for education. One can literally taste through a map of the Mosel River side by side. Then really focus and appreciate the differences these sites have to offer. More importantly, the value for money they offer is incredible. The stony slate soil that can be seen on the surface of the vineyard reflects sunlight to the grapes during the day and at the same time stores a large part of the heat. This is slowly released to the lower soil layers, which creates a very balanced heat balance for the vines even in the cooler nights. The slate is very rich in potassium and therefore a rich, natural source of minerals. It gives the Moselle Riesling its unmistakable mineral and lively character.
”A great wine is created in the head.” – Ernst Loosen
