Story
Burgundy in France is viewed by many in the vinous world as the original home of the Chardonnay grape. Explore how this expressive varietal performs in other regions outside of Burgundy, taking you on a journey to Chile, South Africa and Australia. A winemaker’s favourite, the green-skinned Chardonnay has a naturally neutral flavour, allowing them to express themselves fully in the wine, using different terroirs, winemaking techniques and oak.
2018 Jordan Unoaked Chardonnay, Stellenbosch, South Africa
Inspired by the styles of Chablis where Chardonnay is allowed to express its inherent character. A totally unique unoaked offering that is defined partly by extended lees contact that develops mouthfeel and nuance in the wine. Aromas of freshly grated lemon zest and citrus orchard that finishes with flavours of apricot puree and lime sorbet.
2017 Casas del Bosque Reserva Chardonnay, Casablanca, Chile
The Casas del Bosque philosophy is based on the constant search for excellence. Quality instead of quantity is at the heart of their viticultural practices, as they strive to produce only the best wines possible. This Reserva Chardonnay is pale straw in colour. On the nose fresh aromas reminiscent of quince and pineapple combine with notes of grilled nuts and vanilla. In the mouth, the wine is medium-bodied with complexity, freshness and excellent length.
2017 Journey Wines, Yarra Valley Chardonnay, Victoria, Australia
Journey Wines are a reflection not only of the unique vineyard sites on which the grapes were grown but also of the journey of winemaker Damian North. Pale straw colour with green tints. The elegant yet intense nose has floral notes over stone fruit and flinty aromas. The front-palate exhibits restrained white peach flavours, followed by a tight line of citrusy acidity and lightly spicy oak. The excellent flavour intensity leads to a delightfully long finish.
