Story
The 2017 Allram Villa Strass Zweigelt is a wine of pure elegance and a fantastic alternative to Beaujolais. This wine is labelled Villa Strass as they reserve the Allram name for wines from estate-grown fruit.
The Allram estate is in the heart of the Kamptal, in the picturesque Strass im Strassertale. Michaela Haas-Allram took over her parent’s business in 1992 and has since operated the winery with her husband Erich. Allram has been one of the leading wineries of the Kamptal for decades, with holdings in the famous vineyards of Heiligenstein, Gaisberg, and Renner. For the owners, the main factor of producing exceptional wines is to be found already in the vineyards. Their strong family ethos extends to all areas of the winery – with Erich and son Lorenz sharing responsibilities in the vineyards and cellar whilst Michaela and daughter Magdalena are responsible for the commercial side. Michaela´s father Walter is still a regular visitor out in the vineyard. The harmony of the generations is at the root of the positive philosophy. Lorenz values family traditions whilst seeking to strive for tomorrow – creating marvellous wines with distinctive varietal character.
The Allram team consistently creates organic, high-quality wines by combining the knowledge of generations with state-of-the-art technology. Both, Grüner Veltliner and Riesling thrives in Lorenz’s hands, with the 2016 Gaisberg winning 97 pts at the International Wine Challenge in London receiving the white wine trophy.
The 2017 Allram Villa Strass Zweigelt is a dark carmine red. The nose is delicate and very elegant, typical sour cherries with a floral touch. On the palate spicy-fruity with soft tannins and good length. A wine of great value for money. In the finish very seductive!
