Story
Devil’s Corner Pinot Noir coming literally from the land down under. Considered cool climate when compared to other Australian regions, Tasmania has some of the purest fruit coming off the vines. This clarity and purity of fruit allows for exceptional varietal expression. This estate wine expresses a fresh fruit style made to drink now in style allowing one to get a true taste of Pinot Noir. It’s also proof that you don’t need to fork out heavy cash on Burgundy to get good Pinot,
Tasmania as a region only produces around one percent of Aussie wines. Pinot Noir is notoriously difficult to grow and hard to ripen. It doesn’t have the best disease resistance either. The Devil’s corner vineyard is located on the east coast of Tassie in Coles Bay. A huge maritime influence here which helps cool the vines in summer, lengthening the ripening period. As a wine, Pinot can be quite versatile, making light-bodied reds and even Rose. This wine is highly perfumed, lots of spice with black cherry and a touch raspberries. The palate starts off juicy, with ripe fruit, soft tannin and a fresh crisp finish. Scented in length and easy to drink, order more than one bottle as this goes down way to easy.
Once the fruit is harvested it’s then crushed and fermented on its skins. Air maceration takes place allowing for a softer extraction of colour and tannin. Vintage 2017 therefore is in its prime drinking window. What does that mean? It means the wine has had enough time to soften and mellow and to really integrate all of its components. A versatile food wine that can be enjoyed with light or heavy dishes. Get around Elliot’s isolation case on the 24th to get a full brief on this wine.
